Easy Cuban Style Mojo Steak #SteakOver

It's almost summer and you know what that means, grilling on the beach with the family. You are always looking for that perfect cut of steak, and the perfect recipe to accompany it. It is always a task trying to make a recipe that is healthy and that your children would like. I thought of this traditional Cuban Mojo recipe, that I just had to share. It's easy to make and is healthy too!

I decided to go to Walmart and checkout their new premiums steaks, they had a big selection from thin cuts and thick cuts. Walmart shoppers can take their grilling up a notch with its top-quality selection of steaks, certified by the USDA for quality. Only one in five steaks is good enough to be called Walmart Choice Premium Beef.  Here is a recipe I made and all that you need.

  1. 1/2 cup fresh lime juice
  2. 1/3 cup water
  3. 1/4 cup fresh orange juice
  4. 1 1/2 teaspoons salt
  5. 1/2 teaspoon oregano
  6. 1/2 teaspoon freshly ground pepper
  7. 1/2 cup olive oil
  8. 8 large garlic cloves, thinly sliced crosswise
  9. 1 teaspoon ground cumin
  10. 6 thin sirloin steaks (8 ounces each)
  11. 3 tablespoons chopped fresh cilantro
  12. Vegetable oil, for the grill if you are grilling it!
  13. 2 sweet onions, sliced 1/4 inch thick
Mix up the lime juice, water, orange juice, salt, oregano and pepper in a bowl.
Heat the olive oil on medium heat, Add the garlic and cumin and cook until the garlic is golden, about 2 or 3 minutes. Add the juice mixture and bring to a boil. Remove from the heat and let the Mojo cool to room temperature. It smells divine! Put the steaks and mixture in a ziplock bag and mix,add the onions and cumin, cilantro, let sit in the fridge for up to two hours.

Now if you are cooking on the stove take the mixture out put it in a bowl and heat up your deep pan. Once the Olive oil is heated up put the steak on the heat.Let sear for 5 mins each side, don't let it get black. The number can change for less or more minutes depending on the thickness of the steak. Once both sides are seared, you can put the rest of the Mojo in a baking dish and put the steak on the dish or if your pan is oven safe then stick that in the oven. On 350 for 20 minutes or until fully cooked, check it occasionally  paper foil it to make it nice and moist before placing in the oven.

Grilling Instructions:

Arrange the steaks in a large glass baking dish. Add the cilantro to the mojo and pour half of it over the steaks; turn several times to coat evenly. Cover and marinate in the refrigerator for 1 to 2 hours. Reserve the remaining mojo.
Light a grill. Lightly brush the grate with oil. Remove the steaks from the marinade and pat dry. Brush the onion slices with some of the reserved mojo. Grill the onion slices over the cooler part of the grill, until lightly charred and tender, about 4 minutes per side. Grill the steaks over high heat until medium rare, 2 minutes per side. Transfer the steaks and onions to a platter; spoon the remaining mojo on top and serve.

I will update the pictures of me making the steak soon, my camera started to act up so I couldn't download them. Stay tuned for those!
